Multiple Shooting In Irvington, Suspected Gunman Dead: Police

Several Irvington cops took fire during a shooting that claimed the life of the suspected gunman and a 20-year-old victim, reports said.

IRVINGTON, NJ — At least three Irvington cops took fire during a shooting that claimed the life of the suspected gunman and a 20-year-old victim on Thursday, authorities said.

The shooting took place around 11 a.m. on the 300-block of Myrtle Avenue, where a man with a rifle reportedly fired dozens of bullets. A 20-year-old man on the scene was shot in the neck and transported a nearby hospital. He later passed away, ABC News stated.

An Irvington police officer arriving on the scene was hit in the leg. Injuries to the officer were reportedly non-life-threatening, ABC News reported.

Another officer was grazed on the arm; both are expected to make a full recovery, News 12 New Jersey reported.

Other officers on the scene returned fire, hitting the suspect, News 12 New Jersey stated.

Essex County sheriff's officers helped Irvington police to search the area, combing through nearby yards, the Daily Voice reported.

Police discovered the suspected 38-year-old gunman deceased, ABC News reported.

Irvington City Councilman Paul Inman told News 12 New Jersey that the man had a "ton of ammunition" in a backpack and a bulletproof vest.

"He was ready for war," Inman said. "He was shooting any law enforcement that came into this way."

The New Jersey State PBA offered support for the injured victims on Twitter.

On Thursday evening, the New Jersey Office of the Attorney General identified the deceased gunman as Kaizen Crossen, 39, of Irvington.

State prosecutors said that a third police officer also sustained non-life-threatening injuries in the shooting.
