An Irvington man died in a fatal shooting in Newark last weekend, authorities said.
NEWARK, NJ — An Irvington man died in a fatal shooting in Newark last weekend, authorities said.
The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office and the Newark Department of Public Safety released a joint statement about the shooting, which claimed the life of Rasheed Mells, 24, of Irvington.

“On Saturday, July 16, officers from the Essex County Sheriff’s Office alerted the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office that a male had been shot on the 700-block of 20th Street in the City of Newark. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:07 p.m.”
The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force, which includes detectives from the Newark Police Department, is investigating the fatal shooting. Authorities said that anyone with information can contact the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office tips line at 1-877-TIPS-4EC or 1-877-847-7432.
