The Islam in Black America has been postponed

Please stand intuned for the upcoming date for our historic town meeting on Islam in the African American community at Weequahic High School

Newark, NJ - On Thursday, June 13, 2019, in the school’s auditorium, the Black History Month Committee of Weequahic high school was scheduled to sponsor a free program called Islam in Black America for the students and the larger community in Newark, NJ from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Unfortunately, we had to postponed the forum. We will reschedule the event for a future date. The program will still bring Imam Amin Nathari to Weequahic High School in Newark, NJ as the guest speaker. He is a respected scholar, author, and Islamic leader. Imam Nathari has been on tour around the country speaking and hosting town meetings on the developments of Islam in Black America since the transition of Nation of Islam in 1975. Under the leadership of the Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad, the Nation of Islam was the largest Islamic and Black Conscious Movement in America from 1930 to 1975. There were Mosques in every city and in every corner in the African American community organizing oppressed Black people for Islam, Black pride, Black economic independence, and Black empowerment. Its members were in the hundreds of thousands.

The Nation of Islam movement included members such as Muhammad Ali, Imam Siraj Wahhaj, the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan, Malcolm X, Muhammad Ali, Clarence 13X (the Founder of the 5% Nation of Islam) Clara Muhammad, Khadijah Farrakhan, Dr. Khalid Abdul Muhammad, and Imam Warith Deen Mohammed. Imam Nathari will be discussing the state of Islam in the African American community with Muslims, Black Muslims, Muslim leaders, Muslim activists, oppressed people, scholars, teachers, Afrocentrist, Jews, Christians, Black people, and the human family.
Imam Amin Nathari is the Founder and National Representative of IAM - Islam in America Movement. He was a founder of Masjid As Habul Yameen in East Orange, NJ in 1995, and served as the director and first Imam from 1995 - 2000.
The Black History Month Committee was created by history teachers to organize programs and activities for February’s Black History Month and for the school year at Weequahic High School for students and the community.

Bashir Muhammad Akinyele, the Chairperson of the Black History Month Committee and a history teacher at Weequahic High School, says, “This program is an opportunity to discuss solutions to the problems affecting African Americans, Latino Americans, people of color, women, the youth, and humanity.”
