Juneteenth Festival In Newark’s South Ward Will Include Music, Food, Games

NEWARK, NJ — An annual Juneteenth festival will return to Newark’s South Ward on Saturday, June 20.

The South Ward Annual Juneteenth Festival: House Music Edition will take place from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Bergen Street between Lyons Avenue and Nye Avenue.

According to a news release from organizers, the cultural celebration represents the freeing of the last African American people from slavery in Galveston, Texas in 1865. Attractions include food, vendors, live music, amusements, performances, carnival rides and games, as well as a health and wellness zone.
