‘Key Priorities’ For City Outlined At Business Forum In Newark
The Newark Regional Business Partnership hosted a public forum with city council president C. Lawrence Crump.

NEWARK, NJ — The Newark Regional Business Partnership (NRBP) recently hosted a public forum with city council president C. Lawrence Crump, bringing together business, civic and community leaders for a discussion about the Brick City’s present – and future.
President and CEO Ferlanda Fox Nixon led the conversation, which focused on Newark’s economic growth, business development and policy initiatives. Participants also delved into topics like the city’s ongoing infrastructure improvements, workforce development collaborations, and efforts to strengthen its position as a “tech hub.”
“Engaging directly with Newark’s leadership is essential for fostering a thriving business environment,” Nixon said.

Some of the proposed initiatives included making major transportation upgrades, forming partnerships with local universities, and investing in broadband infrastructure to support business and education.
Crump – the son of late councilwoman Mildred Crump – emphasized his commitment to continuing his mother’s legacy of service, adding that his personal goal is always to “do what I can to help others.”

During the discussion, Crump outlined some key priorities for attracting and retaining businesses in Newark. They included:
- “Supporting organizations like Invest Newark, which provide critical resources for businesses”
- “Enhancing public safety through improved cleanliness and lighting”
- “Expanding residential development in the downtown area while maintaining overall housing affordability”
The council president also discussed initiatives aimed at supporting small businesses, including the City of Newark’s efforts to “demystify” the procurement process and make opportunities more accessible to smaller contractors and firms.
