La Casa de Don Pedro's NLAAD Celebration
La Casa de Don Pedro Celebrated National Latinx AIDS Awareness Day by Educating and Reducing the Stigma of HIV/AIDS among Latinos.

La Casa de Don Pedro hosted National Latinx AIDS Awareness Day (NLAAD) on Saturday, October 6 at it's 23 Broadway Community Center in Newark, NJ. This year’s National Latinx AIDS Awareness Day’s theme was "Celebrando La Vida (Celebrating Life)."
National Latinx AIDS Awareness Day (NLAAD) was a free and entertaining event open to the public that focused on raising awareness about HIV/AIDS in the community, education about the latest prevention and treatment options and encouraged advocacy. La Casa de Don Pedro’s NLAAD event was one of hundreds held across the country to foster community engagement and reduce the stigma, especially among Latinos, associated in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
Community partners like Broadway House for Continuing Care, New Jersey Community Research Initiative, Center for Health Identity Behavior and Prevention Studies, Hackensack University, and Gilead Sciences joined the event and provided resources to residents.

NLAAD attendees participated in educational conversations about the latest information available to prevent and manage HIV, including using PrEP, the most current prevention approach, HIV rapid testing, condom demonstrations, HIV testing, and raffles.
“The superheroes of the Youth, Family, and Health Services Division engaged our clients in overcoming barriers in their sexual health and highlighted all the options available to them,” said La Casa de Don Pedro’s Health Services Unit Manager, Noshella Singh. “Clients were also exposed to and showed great interest many La Casa de Don Pedro programs available such as the Heart Disease Prevention Program, Mammogram, and Pap smear screening to name a few.”
