Little League Players Enjoy Spring Season
Jackie Robinson League baseball players launched their season out of St. Peter's Rec Center
Little League season has been in full swing in the South Ward of Newark.
Since opening day, when players from the Jackie Robinson Little League lobbed baseballs and ran diamonds around St. Peter's Rec Center, the sluggers have been playing games inbetween the rainy days.
Opening Day kicked off at St. Peter's Park on Lyons Avenue, while residents pitched in for the First Annual South Ward Mass Community Clean-Up, organized by Councilman Ras Baraka.

Donning brand new uniforms, courtesy of Baraka's office, Little Leaguers took part in opening day games while volunteers hauled off filled garbage bags from the park's pool as part of the clean-up.
"We want to let the sponsors know that we appreciate (the fundraisers), so we do volunteer work," said Donna Judd, president of the Jackie Robinson league.
Volunteers picked up litter to help beautify nearly 60 percent of the South Ward, according to Amiri Baraka, Baraka's chief of staff.
