Livery Cab Driver Robbed In Newark, Police Seek Suspects
After a struggle, the suspects escaped with the driver's phone, license, work permit, credit cards and cash, Newark police said.
NEWARK, NJ — The search continues for two people who robbed a livery cab driver in Newark earlier this month, authorities said Tuesday.
According to the Newark Department of Public Safety, the robbery happened around 4:10 a.m. after the driver was dispatched to the 300-block of New York Avenue to pick up a customer.

“After he arrived, the driver helped the customer put her suitcase in his truck while she returned to her residence to get another piece of luggage. As he loaded his trunk, two male suspects with thin builds approached him from behind wearing ski masks and black clothing. The first suspect, who was wearing sneakers, stuck what the driver believed to be a handgun in the right side of his body. Both men yelled at him, demanding that he give them his money. A struggle ensued with the first suspect while the second suspect went into his pockets, taking an iPhone, $180, a wallet containing a debit and credit card, a driver’s license and a work permit.”
The suspects fled on New York Avenue towards Lang Street, authorities said.
A dark gray-colored SUV Kia Sportage was captured on surveillance video in the area, police said (see photos below).
