Man, 50, Fatally Shot In Newark; Police Seek Information

No arrests have been made as of Tuesday, prosecutors said.

NEWARK, NJ — A 50-year-old man died after being shot in Newark on Monday, authorities said.

According to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, Jerry Wayne Works Jr., 50, of Newark, was shot at 36 Brenner Street in Newark at 1:24 p.m.

Emergency responders transported Works to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead at 2:18 p.m., authorities said.

No arrests have been made as of Tuesday afternoon, prosecutors said.

The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force, which includes detectives from the Newark Police Department, is investigating the shooting.
