Man Accused Of Killing, Dismembering Newark Resident: Prosecutor

The victim's body was found on Chancellor Avenue in Newark, authorities said.

NEWARK, NJ — A man has been accused of killing and dismembering a 49-year-old Newark resident, authorities announced Tuesday.

Angel Velez, 56, of Newark was arrested and charged with the slaying of Salustino Santiago, 49, of Newark, the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office said.

The victim’s dismembered body was found on the 100-block of Chancellor Avenue in Newark on Nov. 20, authorities said.

Velez has been charged with murder and desecration of human remains, prosecutors said. He is being held at the Essex County Correctional Facility.
