Man Dies After Getting Caught In Machine At Newark Business, Police Say

Firefighters freed the man from the machine but he died at the scene, police said.

NEWARK, NJ — A man who got trapped in a machine while working died Friday night, Newark officials said.

The man's identity had not been released as of Saturday night.

Police were called to a business on the 100 block of Hudson Street about 11:20 p.m. Friday for a report of a man trapped in a machine, Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda said in a statement.

Firefighters lifted the machine off the worker, who had become pinned between a horizontal conveyor that malfunctioned and a lower stainless steel tray, the statement said.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, the statement said.

The incident remains under investigation, Newark police said.
