Police Apprehend Man Who Escaped From Newark Hospital

The suspect was originally in custody for domestic violence offenses, police said.

NEWARK, NJ — UPDATE: Police announced Monday evening that Robert E. Goodwin has been apprehended. He was originally in custody for domestic violence charges that included aggravated assault, robbery, possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. A man who escaped police custody at a Newark hospital remains at large as of Monday, authorities said.

According to the Newark Department of Public Safety, Robert E. Goodwin escaped custody while being treated at a local hospital on Sunday.

He was last seen wearing a blue shirt and light green cargo pants, and fleeing west on 13th Avenue toward Littleton Avenue, authorities said. (See below photo)

“While police are actively searching for Robert E. Goodwin, we seek the public’s help in quickly locating this individual as part of this investigation,” authorities said.
