NEWARK, NJ — Newark police are searching for two people who were allegedly involved in a robbery that took place earlier this month, authorities announced Tuesday.

According to the Newark Department of Public Safety, the incident took place around midnight on Oct. 8. Here’s what happened, police said:

“Two men left a convenience store near South 10th Street and 14th Avenue. Two males approached the victims, demanding money. One of the suspects, brandishing a weapon, struck one of the victims in the face and head. The victim did not give up his money and the suspects left, walking westbound on 14th Avenue. When they reached the 200-block, the suspect with the weapon fired the handgun, which was picked up by the Shot Spotter detection system.”

Newark police officers found a 9mm casing at the scene, authorities said.
