Missing 10-Year-Old Last Seen At Newark School Found Unharmed: UPDATED

A young girl was last seen at her school. She was dismissed at 2:45 p.m. on Tuesday, authorities previously said.

NEWARK, NJ — UPDATE: Police said Essence Spence-Jones has been found and is unharmed. Our original article follows below.

Police are asking for the public’s help finding a missing, 10-year-old girl from Newark, authorities announced Wednesday.

According to the Newark Department of Public Safety, Essence Spence-Jones, 10, was reported missing on Tuesday. She was last seen at 8:45 a.m. at Belmont Runyon School. She was dismissed from school at 2:45 p.m.

Spence-Jones is 4 feet 7 inches and 130 pounds with straight hair, often worn in a ponytail. She was wearing her school uniform consisting of a yellow shirt and blue pants. She was also wearing white Air Force One sneakers and an orange coat, and was carrying a black North Face book bag.

Police said the missing youth frequents the area of 157 Chadwick Avenue and 180 Ridgewood Avenue.

Authorities said anyone with information can call the Police Division’s 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477). Anonymous tips can also be made using the Police Division’s website.
