Missing Newark Man, 82, Has Alzheimer’s; Police Seek Help

NEWARK, NJ — Newark police are asking for the public’s help finding a missing 82-year-old man diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease.

On Thursday, authorities announced they are searching for Elijah Gadsden of Newark, who was last seen at 4:30 a.m. on the 100-block of Shepherd Avenue.

“While police are actively searching for Mr. Gadsden, pictured below, we seek the public’s help in quickly locating him and returning him to his family,” the Newark Department of Public Safety stated.

Police said Gadsden is 5 feet 10 inches and 170 pounds, with short, bushy gray hair, a gray mustache and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing blue work pants, a white t-shirt, blue sneakers and a black cap.

Anyone with information about the whereabouts of Elijah Gadsden can call the department's 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477). Anonymous tips can also be made using the police division’s website at: www.newarkpd.org or through the Newark Police Division smartphone app.
