Missing Newark Man Last Seen Leaving Taxi, Police Seek Help

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — Police are asking for the public’s help finding a missing Essex County resident who was last seen getting out of a taxi nearly a week ago, authorities announced Monday.

Claudio Lema, 37, of Newark, was reported missing on June 3, according to the Newark Department of Public Safety.

Lema was last seen on the 100-block of Bloomfield Avenue in Newark. He got into a Classic taxi cab that dropped him off in the area of Sixth Avenue and North 5th Street, authorities said.

Lema is Hispanic, 5 feet 4 inches and weighs 150 pounds. He was wearing a black and gray t-shirt, black pants and black Converse sneakers, police said.

Authorities said anyone with information can call the Police Division’s 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477). Anonymous tips can also be made using the Police Division’s website.
