Missing Newark School Worker Found Dead Inside Her Home, Police Say

The missing woman was last seen at her job, police said.

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — A missing New Jersey school worker who was last seen at her job was found dead inside her home last weekend, authorities say.

Police issued a missing persons alert on Friday, Feb. 6 for Sandra Shanks, 60, of Newark.

Shanks was last seen at her place of employment, Marion P. Thomas School, at 2:10 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 30, the Newark Department of Public Safety reported.

“Her mental and physical conditions are good,” police said.

Police released an update about the case on Sunday, Feb. 8, reporting that Shanks was found unresponsive inside her home around 1:15 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 7. She was pronounced deceased at 1:36 p.m.

“While this incident remains under investigation, foul play is not suspected,” Newark police said.
