Missing NY Man Last Seen Leaving Newark Hotel: Police

A Syracuse resident was last seen leaving a hotel in Newark. He was reported missing two days ago, police say.

NEWARK, NJ — Police are asking for the public’s help finding a New York resident who was last seen leaving a hotel on Broad Street in Newark, authorities announced Friday.

Mohammed Arif Jafari, 25, of Syracuse, New York, was reported missing on Aug. 16, according to the Newark Department of Public Safety.

Authorities said Jafari was last seen leaving the Courtyard by Marriott Hotel at 858 Broad Street in Newark around 9:30 a.m.

Jafari is 5 feet 5 inches and 145 pounds with brown eyes, black hair and a light skin complexion. He was wearing a green t-shirt and khaki pants with no shoes (see photos below). He has an intellectual disability, and “is known to pray a lot,” authorities said.

Authorities said anyone with information can contact the Police Division’s 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477). Anonymous tips can also be made using the Police Division’s website.
