‘Model Tenant' In Newark Found Dead In Home; Cops Seek Killer

Essex County authorities are offering a $10K reward for info leading to the conviction of Nellie Marquez's killer. Can you help?

NEWARK, NJ — Nellie Marquez was a “model tenant,” respected by her neighbors and a member of the tenant association in her senior apartment complex in Newark. But on Saturday, July 14, she was found deceased in her home with “blunt force trauma.”

Now local authorities are seeking the person or persons who killed her.

On Tuesday, the Essex County Sheriff’s Office Crime Stoppers Program offered a reward up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the individual or individuals responsible for the death of Nellie Marquez, 55, of Newark. (See photo below)

According to detectives:

“On July 14, Ms. Marquez was found unresponsive in her apartment located at 130 Dayton Street suffering from blunt force trauma. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Ms. Marquez lived in a senior apartment complex and was known as a model tenant. She was a part of the tenant association and respected by her neighbors.”
