Mom Accused of Changing Son's Grades on School Computer for College Applications

Prosecutor: Former Newark school worker altered high school transcripts, also stole student dues.

A former Newark school worker with access to district computers altered her son’s high school transcripts and forwarded it to colleges as part of his college application, according to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office.

Prosecutors are charging that Janita Warner, 38, of Newark, utilized school computers to alter her son’s high school transcript and forwarded it to colleges as a part of his college application. She is also accused of using her position as treasurer in the Lafayette Street School to steal $2,900 from the school account and accept student dues without depositing the money in the bank.

Warner was arrested on Wednesday at her job at an industrial facility in South Brunswick, and charged with theft, theft by failure to make required deposits, forgery and computer crime. She is being held at the Essex County Correctional Facility on $50,000 bail.
