Mother, Daughter Graduate At Same Time: NJCU Holds Commencement In Newark
It's a heartwarming experience for a mother to see her daughter graduate college. But for this N.J. mom, there was a unique twist.

NEWARK, NJ — It’s a heartwarming experience for a mother to see her daughter graduate college. But it’s even better when she’s walking down the aisle alongside her to get a diploma.
On Wednesday, Kewanna Vaughn, a supervising office assistant for the Port Authority, graduated from New Jersey City University with a degree in criminal justice during the school’s annual commencement ceremony at the Prudential Center in Newark.
At her side was her 22-year-old daughter, Timiah Calamito, who also earned a criminal justice degree and plans to pursue a career with U.S. Customs or Homeland Security, NJ.com reported.

Vaughn decided to return to school and study criminal justice after being laid off from her finance job, joining her daughter, who was already attending NJCU.
“It's been a challenge and it's also been good," Vaughn told NJ.com. “I'm much prouder of her than I am of myself though.”
