RECENT FATAL SHOOTINGS IN NEWARK
Earlier this month, a group of Newark residents and Mayor Ras Baraka issued statements decrying a recent wave of fatal shootings in the city.
Although Newark has seen a drop in homicides over the past four years, there has been an "uptick in violence" over the past few weeks, Mayor Ras Baraka said.
It's a situation that "will not be tolerated and must be stopped," Baraka added.
"'Mask up' does not mean go out and shoot up your community," members of the Newark Anti-Violence Coalition wrote. "Put the guns down. Go home."
