Murder Charge, Arrest After Shooting In Newark: Prosecutors
Police arrested a man accused of a fatal shooting in Newark. Another victim was wounded in the attack, authorities said.

NEWARK, NJ — Police arrested a man accused of fatally shooting a victim in Newark two months ago, authorities announced Thursday.
Tyquil Martin, 23, of Newark, has been charged with murder, unlawful possession of a handgun, and possession of a handgun for unlawful purpose in connection with the death of Thomas Pickett, 23, also of Newark, according to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office and the Newark Department of Public Safety.
Prosecutors released the following statement about the shooting, which also wounded another victim:

“On Saturday, Aug. 13 at 9:44 p.m., Newark police discovered Pickett, 23, of Newark, on the 200-block of Renner Avenue in Newark, suffering from gunshot wounds. He was transported to University Hospital and pronounced dead at 10:16 p.m. A second victim was injured and taken to University Hospital for treatment.”
