Nation’s 1st Automatic Security Checkpoint Opens At Newark Airport (VIDEO)
Newark Airport has taken a leap into the 21st century. See how the new automated security lines work here.

NEWARK, NJ — Terminal C at Newark Airport is now on the cutting edge of security technology.
On Tuesday, United Airlines announced that the nation’s first all-automated security checkpoint has opened at Newark Liberty International Airport. The fully redesigned and consolidated security checkpoint includes dedicated Premier Access and TSA Precheck security lanes, as well as 17 “state-of-the-art” automated screening lanes, making Terminal C the first checkpoint in the country to exclusively feature the new lanes.
Last year, United became the first U.S.-based airline to open automated screening lanes at multiple airports and the first to exclusively dedicate automated lanes to a TSA Precheck security checkpoint.

"The opening of our fully redesigned, state-of-the-art checkpoint in Newark – New York's premier trans-Atlantic gateway – continues our commitment to use the latest technology to improve the airport experience for our customers,” United's Executive Vice President and Chief Operations Officer Greg Hart said.
According to United Airlines representative David Billing, the new security lines will allow the airline to process more passengers simultaneously, which gets people through the checkpoint quicker.

"These automated screening lanes have been used in Europe," Transportation Security Administration representative Steve Karoly stated. "We recently brought them into the U.S., working with United specifically."
Karoly said that the new lines will give United passengers options that they didn't have before, including a solution to the maddening delay of having slow moving passengers ahead of you in the security line.
"Sometimes there's a family in front of you and they’ve never done this before and they're a little slower," Karoly said. "If you know how to get through quickly, you can just go around them and you don’t have to feel rude or pushy."
