National Night Out Returns To Newark For 2019

National Night Out – an event that aims to bring the community together with their local police departments – returns to Newark on Aug. 6.

NEWARK, NJ — National Night Out – an event that aims to bring the community together with their local police departments – will return to Newark on Tuesday, Aug. 6.

According to the Newark Police Department:

“National Night Out is a unique crime and a drug prevention awareness event endorsed by the National Association of Town Watch. It is designed to generate support for and participation in local anti-crime programs, to strengthen neighborhood spirit and to foster police-community partnerships.”

A free, public event will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. at West Side Park (16th Avenue and South 15th Street Entrance). It will include free food, music, bouncy rides, a dunk tank, a rock climbing wall, T-shirts, a classic car show, Sparky the Fire Dog and other fun/informative activities for children and adults.

In addition, Newark police will display an Emergency Services Unit and equipment, police horses, motorcycles, police boat, bomb truck, Segway device, and command post vehicle. The Fire Division will display its command vehicle, a hazmat vehicle, and its historic vintage fire engine.

National Night Out events are also planned for Aug. 6 at three other Newark parks: Nat Turner, Jesse Allen and Mildred Helms.

According to organizers United Parks As One, the free, public events at the above parks will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. They will include food, entertainment, giveaways, face painting, music and activities.
