New Class At Rutgers Law School Has More Female Students Than Ever

NEWARK, NJ — Rutgers Law School recently saw a big milestone, administrators say: the highest number of female students ever enrolled in an incoming class.

According to Rutgers, about 59 percent of the more than 400 full-time and part-time students who began their journey through law school last week are women – the highest total in its history.

There are other encouraging statistics when it comes to diversity in the new class of future attorneys, Rutgers administrators said. In Newark, the new students range in age from 17 to more than 60. About 48 percent identify as students of color, 24 percent are first-generation college graduates, and 77 percent are first-generation law students. In all, 22 states and 22 countries are represented.

In Camden, the 2023 incoming part-time students have the highest academic record and highest enrollment of students of color (33 percent) for its class in the law school’s history.

The new students got a warm welcome during orientation sessions in Newark on Aug. 15 and in Camden on Aug. 16. Read the full post from Rutgers here.
