Newark 2026 School Board Election Is Tuesday: What To Know

There is only one incumbent candidate running for the Newark Board of Education this year.

NEWARK, NJ — Newark voters will head to the polls for the 2026 board of education election on Tuesday, April 21.

Six candidates will compete for three open seats on the school board. Terms last for three years. The candidates are:

  • John Farrell
  • Tawheed Peters
  • Hasani K. Council
  • Mark Comesañas
  • Quamid Childs
  • Lisa A. Gray

There are also three candidates competing to fill a 1-year unexpired term on the school board:
