“The project is a healing space and support circle that helps to humanize the memories of their lost loved ones as many of their lives have been minimalized by media insensitivity and institutional efforts to be more taken with clearing and protecting the perpetrating officers. This year’s induction ceremony including two local families: the family of Darryl Fuqua, who was killed by Bridgeton, New Jersey police officers, and the family of Jaquil Fields, who was killed in a hit and run by a Paterson, New Jersey police officer. Families from as far away as Anaheim and Oakland, California were also represented, such as the family of Cesar Cruz and the family of Oscar Grant, whose tragic case inspired by the film, ‘Fruitvale Station,’ which starred Newark native Michael B. Jordan.”
