Newark Airport Heroin Arrest: Car Breaks Down, Cops Find Drugs

The woman's car broke down near the entrance road at Newark Airport and created a hazard. That's when officers found the heroin, police say.

NEWARK, NJ — Port Authority police officers arrested an Essex County woman after finding 200 decks of heroin in her 1994 Mercury Capri, which broke down near the entrance road at Newark Airport and created a hazard, authorities said.

Officers responded to a report of a disabled car on Parking Lot Road and Entrance Bridge inside Newark airport around 10 p.m. on Thursday, according to the Port Authority of NY/NJ.

On arrival, the officers saw Ana Camacho, 32, of Newark, sitting in a 1994 Mercury Capri parked in the active roadway, “creating a hazard and blocking traffic,” police said.

While speaking to Camacho, the officers allegedly noticed a glassine bag of suspected heroin “in plain view” at the top of her blouse, authorities said.

When asked about the bag, Camacho allegedly tried to hide it, police stated.

Officers recovered the bag, which contained stamped, wax folds or “decks” of suspected heroin, authorities said.

Police arrested Camacho and charged her with Manufacturing, Distributing or Dispensing CDS, Possession of CDS.
