Newark Airport Takes Steps To Ease Security Check-In Times

NEWARK, NJ — It just got a little bit easier to get through security check-in at Newark Liberty International Airport.
Recently, details were released about two new programs being rolled out at the busy airport, just ahead of the holiday travel season. At Terminal A, travelers can make an appointment for the TSA security line up to 72 hours in advance. And at Terminal B, there are new “expedited lanes.”
Here are some details about both programs.

According to airport officials:
“Reservations and walk-in appointments are available for departing and general screening passengers daily from 4 a.m. to 8 p.m. in Terminal A at Newark Airport. Appointments are limited, reserve your spot early to get the appointment time you prefer. VirtuaLine is currently not available at TSA PreCheck security lines. All TSA PreCheck passengers should be screened at designated PreCheck lines in order to use their PreCheck benefits, such as not having to remove their shoes and electronics.”
The VirtuaLine program is free; there is no app, account or membership required.

MORE EXPEDITED LANES
Last week, security company Clear began running new, “expedited security lanes” at Terminal B of the airport. The company already runs expedited lanes at Terminal C.
Here’s how they work, according to the company:
“Members are able to use Clear’s network of dedicated lanes to verify their identity simply by using their eyes, replacing the need to take out your wallet and driver’s license. After verification, a Clear ambassador escorts members through the dedicated lane and directly to TSA physical security.”
“We are proud to expand our partnership with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and bring Clear’s expedited lanes to holiday travelers,” CEO Caryn Seidman-Becker said. “As experts warn of heavy travel and longer lines throughout the holiday season, our arrival at Newark Terminal B is well timed to help surprise and delight travelers.”
“This is a critical part of the Port Authority’s commitment to enhance the travel experience with innovative technology while implementing health and safety measures to keep travelers safe” Port Authority Aviation Director Huntley Lawrence said.
“With the holiday travel season upon us, our expanded partnership with Clear provides customers with an additional way to improve travel through EWR with fast and secure service,” Lawrence said.
Clear Plus is an opt-in membership that costs $15 a month, with discounts available for Delta Air Lines, United Airlines and American Express members. Additionally, family members can be added to an existing Clear Plus account for $60 per adult per year.
