Newark Artists Will Use Poetry To Heal The Pain Of Violence
A gathering of Newark poets will host a free event and reading as part of National Crime Victims Week.

NEWARK, NJ — A gathering of Newark-area poets plans to use the power of art to heal the pain left in the wake of violent crime across America.
On Wednesday, April 11, the Newark AntiViolence Coalition will hold “Balm of Lyrics: Poets Against Violence,” an evening of healing lyrical art. The free event will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. at the International Youth Organization, 703 So. 12th Street, off Springfield Avenue in Newark.
Poets appearing at the event will include Antoinette Ellis-Williams, Uninvited, Queen Mother Imakhu. Activist-Author-Survivors Taaj Williams and Aziza Kabibi will also speak. NAVC mother and daughter Karimah and Kimorah Kay will do a poetic tribute to Maya Angelou.
