Newark Assault Suspect Leaps Out Window Trying To Escape Cops

A leap out a third-floor apartment window ended a man's bold-but-unsuccessful escape attempt from Newark police, authorities said.

NEWARK, NJ — A leap out a third-floor apartment window ended a man’s bold-but-unsuccessful escape attempt from police late Thursday night in Newark, authorities said.

Newark police in the 2nd Precinct responded to a North Ward home around 10:45 p.m. after receiving a call that Louis Amaro, 35, of Newark, assaulted a woman that he knew following a quarrel.

When officers arrived on the scene, Amaro tried to escape by leaping out of a window. However, Newark firefighters had already positioned themselves beneath the window and managed to catch Amaro before he hit the ground, according to the Newark Department of Public Safety.
