Newark Becomes Gotham City For ‘Joker’ Movie (VIDEOS)
Several streets in Newark closed down during shooting for the new "Joker" movie. Watch Joaquin Phoenix run amok in NJ's largest city.

NEWARK, NJ — The streets of Newark transformed into 1980s Gotham City last weekend during filming for the upcoming “Joker” movie.
The upcoming Warner Brothers blockbuster - expected to be released in 2019 – reportedly explores the origin of the infamous Batman foil as a failed comedian. Joaquin Phoenix is the latest actor to be cast as the eponymous Joker, following Jared Leto and Heath Ledger's versions of the Clown Prince of Crime.
With shooting in Jersey City recently completed, the producers turned their sights to Essex County, where filming is anticipated to affect local traffic and NJ Transit buses in the area until Wednesday, Oct. 17, Newark officials said.
