NEWARK, NJ — A Newark bookstore and community center is holding a “Malcolm X Read -A-Thon” during May in celebration of the life of the iconic activist and community leader.
A series of readings in tribute to Malcolm X launched earlier this month at Source of Knowledge bookstore, 867 Broad Street. Community members are being invited to read a page – or chapter – from “The Autobiography of Malcolm X: As Told to Alex Haley.”
The readings launched May 1 and will continue to May 18. Learn more here.

So far, the series has included readings from community leaders such as Bashir Muhammad Ptah Akinyele, a history and African American studies teacher at Weequahic High School, who chose an excerpt from chapter 11 – a section of the book that he said focuses on “the factual African origins of human civilization.”
Check out some of the Malcolm X readings that have taken place this month at the bookstore’s Instagram page.
