Newark Businesses That Employ Local Workers Will Get Tax Cuts
Newark businesses that employ more than 50 percent local workers will benefit from a payroll tax cut approved by the Newark City Council.

NEWARK, NJ — Newark businesses that employ more than 50 percent local workers will benefit from a payroll tax cut approved by the Newark City Council last week.
The payroll tax ordinance, passed during the council’s Jan. 19 meeting, aims to get more locals into the workforce by waiving the 1 percent payroll taxes on Newark employees as long as businesses meet the 50 percent threshold.
Businesses will still have to pay the payroll tax for their non-local employees, the ordinance states.
