Newark Car Chase Ends With One Dead, Multiple Arrests

A heavy police presence set out in search of suspects who had bailed out of the car, finding two hiding inside a nearby abandoned building.

A police car chase ended with a confirmed fatality and a massive police manhunt in Newark on Tuesday morning.

Around 9:30 a.m., police were in pursuit of a silver Jaguar sedan reported stolen in a carjacking near Hawthorne Avenue and Demarest Street, when the passengers of the vehicle “bailed out” and tried to flee the scene, NBC New York reported.

Several of the suspects managed to flee the scene, but one died shortly after bailing out, NBC reported.

The fleeing suspects made it to a nearby abandoned building on West Runyon Street, where they barricaded themselves inside, ABC New York stated.

NBC estimated that 115 officers responded to the scene, some armed with assault rifles and tactical gear.

While three suspects have been apprehended and arrested, as many as six may have fled from the crash, News 12 New Jersey reported.
