Newark Charter Schools Announce Merger

The new entity will serve more than 1,200 students from the Greater Newark area, administrators say.

NEWARK, NJ — A pair of Newark charter schools have announced their plans to form a new entity that will serve more than 1,200 students from the Greater Newark area.

Great Oaks Charter School and Newark Legacy Charter School announced the merger plan earlier this month, stating that the new entity will cater to pre-K through 12th grade students.

“The merger will benefit families from both organizations, with former Newark Legacy families having automatic access to a high performing charter high school and former Great Oaks families having an in-network option for younger siblings of its currents students,” school administrators stated in a joint news release. “The merged school will also realize economies of scale by sharing combined resources, including its administrative team, curriculum support and expanded enrichment activities.”
