Newark City Inspectors Shut Down 2 Local Businesses

NEWARK, NJ — A team of inspectors in Newark shut down two local businesses, a local variety store and a gas station, and issued summonses to two others during a joint task force operation conducted last week in the city’s South Ward, authorities say.
On May 24, a task force from the Newark Police and Fire Departments, Code Enforcement Department and Health Department conducted business inspections earlier this week, visiting six businesses near the intersection of Maple and Chancellor Avenues, according to the Newark Public Safety Department.
The S.I.G. Variety store located at 99 Maple Avenue and the Delta Gas Station located at 194 Chancellor Avenue were both closed and issued numerous summonses for allegedly not having valid credentials to operate the business, in addition to other code enforcement violations, authorities stated.

Birts Nutrition at 97 Maple Avenue and H&M Cuttz Barber Shop at 103 Maple Avenue were both issued summonses for code violations but were allowed to remain open, authorities said.
The New Garden Chinese Restaurant at 93 Maple Avenue and the One Maple Supermarket at 196 Chancellor Avenue were both inspected with no violations found, authorities stated.

“These locations were selected in response to citizen complaints about quality of life complaints,” Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose said.
