Newark Cops Conduct ‘Quality of Life’ Crackdown In West, Central Wards
The four-day operation targeted an area from 15th Avenue to 9th Avenue and Littleton Avenue to South 12th Street, Newark police say.

Newark, NJ – A recent “quality of life” crackdown in Newark’s West and Central Wards resulted in dozens of arrests and traffic tickets, authorities said Saturday.
According to the Newark Department of Public Safety, the four-day operation targeted an area which encompassed 15th Avenue to 9th Avenue and Littleton Avenue to South 12th Street, including the Reservoir Apartments.
During the initiative, 18 suspects were arrested during the initiative, 117 traffic tickets were issued, 12 individuals received quality of life summonses, 137 motorists were stopped, four vehicles were towed, a taxi was inspected to “ensure the safety of the driver and the passengers,” 25 places were checked for criminal activity, 95 citizen contacts were initiated, 32 people were interviewed and 64 business were visited.

In addition, five bicyclists were checked for compliance with three of them receiving summonses, and three road safety checkpoints were also conducted during the initiative, authorities said.
“This is the second operation in a series of ongoing community initiatives that will improve the quality of life in these neighborhood,” Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose stated.
