Newark Cops Evacuate Buildings After ‘Suspicious Package” Found
Newark Police: Bomb techs on scene. Buildings evacuated and traffic diverted for "precautionary reasons."

NEWARK, NJ — Newark authorities are investigating a “suspicious package” found on the 600-block of Delancy Street, police announced Monday afternoon.
The Newark Department of Public Safety provided the following statement:
“At approximately 2:26 p.m., Newark police and firefighters responded to reports of two suspicious objects. For precautionary reasons, buildings in the immediate area were evacuated and traffic is being diverted as bomb techs and other members of the Emergency Service Unit respond to the location. Technicians continue to examine the device in an attempt to determine whether the item poses a threat in this ongoing investigation.”
Police later declared the packages to be "inert."

"Technicians examined the devices and determined that they were inert although they were fashioned to resemble explosive devices," police stated. "The two items found posed no threat."
An investigation into the incident continues, authorities said.
