Newark Cops Face Cyber Attack, Computers Shut Down

A computer virus shut down several of the Newark Police Department's programs, a report says.

Newark, NJ – Authorities say that no records were compromised during a cyber attack that left the Newark Police Department without some of its computer systems for several days last week.

NPD staffers were unable to access the systems for three days while staffers cleared combatted a virus which temporarily locked down the servers and blocked access to crime data and police dispatch programs, NJ.com reported.

"The virus did not disrupt the delivery of emergency services to our citizens," Acting Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose told NJ.com.
