Newark Cops Made Several Violent Crime Arrests Last Month (See The List)

One suspect was charged with five counts of attempted murder. Other suspects face charges including aggravated assault and robbery.

NEWARK, NJ — Newark police arrested several suspects in assault and robbery cases throughout the month of August, authorities announced Friday.

Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda credited the Newark Police Criminal Intelligence and Fugitive Apprehension Team for their “tenacity.”

One of the arrestees – Jaleel White, 22, of Irvington – faces five counts of attempted murder, aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and causing or risking widespread injuries, authorities said.

According to Newark police, other arrests and charges included:

  • Travis Birchwood, 21, of Newark, was wanted for an aggravated assault. He was found in possession of three handguns, one of which was a fully automatic firearm (machine gun).
  • Hassan K. Hatcher, 18, of Newark, was arrested on August 27, 2025. He is charged with robbery, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and conspiracy.
  • Dashawn Bowers, 19, of Newark, faces charges of robbery, conspiracy, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and use of a juvenile to commit a crime.
  • Nasheed Jackson, 28, of Irvington, was arrested on August 26, 2025. He is charged with three counts of assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, certain persons prohibited from weapon possession, and an outstanding warrant from state parole.
  • Ricky Dobbs, Jr., 38, of Newark, was arrested on August 19, 2025. He faces charges of two counts of aggravated assault (strangulation), one count of aggravated assault (pointing a firearm), unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, three counts of terroristic threats, simple assault, and harassment.
  • Charles A. Mitchell, 51, of Newark, was arrested on August 22, 2025. He is charged with aggravated assault (stabbing), unlawful possession of a weapon (knife), and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
  • Shakur L. Williams, 19, of Newark, was arrested on August 12, 2025. He faces charges of simple assault, aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
  • Jervani L. Seaman, 25, of Newark, was arrested on August 19, 2025. He is charged with two counts of aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and criminal restraint.
  • Marcellous A. Osborne, 32, of Linden, was arrested on August 14, 2025. He faces charges of aggravated assault and criminal mischief.
  • Almalik Thomas, 39, of Elizabethport, NJ, was arrested on August 14, 2025. He is charged with five counts of aggravated assault.
  • Sage Barnett, 18, of Newark, was arrested on August 11, 2025. He faces charges of conspiracy, aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and use of a juvenile to commit a crime.
