Newark Cops Connect With Community Using The Power Of Art

"I will highlight this artwork in the lobby for everyone to see," a Newark precinct commander said after a "Paint With A Cop" event.

NEWARK, NJ — It’s kind of like putting a beloved piece of artwork on a refrigerator, but on a much bigger scale.

On Wednesday, as part of the Newark Police Department’s ongoing community outreach efforts, officers with the 6th Precinct hosted a “Paint With A Cop” event at St. Mary's Villa on Sanford Avenue.

The officers - Precinct Commander Captain L. Douglas and Community Service Officers S. Okerchiri and C. Corbett – brought the paint and refreshments. Community members brought the entertainment… and artistic vision.

When it was over, five of the artists presented their paintings to the 6th Precinct as gifts. It was a sign of camaraderie that Douglas appreciated, he said.

“I will highlight this artwork in the precinct lobby for everyone to see,” the captain promised.
