Newark Cops Seek Elizabeth Man After Alleged Hit-And-Run

NEWARK, NJ — Authorities are searching for an Elizabeth man who allegedly hit a pair of pedestrians with his SUV in Newark earlier this month and drove away from the scene.

On Thursday, authorities announced that police are searching for Nester Marin-Romaldo, 35, of Elizabeth. Marin-Romaldo is wanted in connection with a hit-and-run that seriously injured two women, according to a joint statement from the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office and the Newark Department of Public Safety.

The women – ages 48 and 33 – were leaving a local establishment at 1:58 a.m. on Jan. 6 when a white SUV struck them in the area of Verona Avenue and Broadway, authorities said.

Both pedestrians sustained life-threatening injuries and remain hospitalized, authorities said Thursday.

Police later identified Marin-Romaldo as the driver of the SUV and charged him with two counts of aggravated assault and one count of leaving the scene of an accident in which two people sustained serious bodily injuries.
