Newark Cops Seize Stolen Motorcycles, Car, Jet Ski: Authorities

Newark police recovered vehicles stolen from NYC, Jersey City, Hoboken, Ridgefield Park and Franklin Lakes during a raid, authorities said.

NEWARK, NJ — Newark police recovered vehicles stolen from New York City, Jersey City, Hoboken, Ridgefield Park and Franklin Lakes during a Thursday raid, authorities said.

The raid came after a two-month police investigation, according to the Newark Department of Public Safety.

Detectives of the 4th Precinct, in a joint operation with the Newark Police Division’s Emergency Response Team, the Hoboken Police and the New Jersey State Police, executed search warrants at a residence on the 700-block of South 11th Street.

During the raid, police seized:

  • $14,741 in cash
  • 3 motorcycles stolen from Jersey City, Hoboken and New York City
  • 7 motorcycles with defaced vehicle identification numbers
  • A jet ski stolen out of Ridgefield Park
  • A 2016 Acura RDX stolen out of Franklin Lakes
  • A surveillance system
  • 5 cell phones
  • 2 motorcycle license plates
  • 16 vehicle titles from six different states
  • A device used to “re-tag” vehicles

Jose Ventura, 34, and Carmen Y. Martinez, 31, both of Newark, were arrested, authorities said.

Police charged Ventura with receiving stolen property. Police charged Martinez with receiving stolen property, making false reports to law enforcement and destruction of evidence.

Additional charges are pending for both suspects, authorities said Thursday evening.
