Newark Cops, U.S. Marshals Arrest Shooting Suspect

A 26-year-old victim is in critical condition after being shot in a car on Littleton Avenue, Newark police say.

NEWARK, NJ — Newark authorities and members of the U.S. Marshals Service Regional Fugitive Task Force have arrested a man suspected of shooting a 26-year-old man on Littleton Avenue earlier this week.

According to the Newark Department of Public Safety, authorities apprehended Robert Steele, 25, of Newark, without incident on Monday.

Steele was wanted for attempted murder in connection with a shooting that took place around 11:16 p.m. on Sunday, Newark police said. During the shooting, a 26-year-old male victim was shot in a car on the 100-block of Littleton Avenue. The suspect then fled the scene.

Emergency responders transported the victim to University Hospital where he remains in critical condition, police said Tuesday.

Authorities charged Steele with Attempted Murder, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose.
