Newark Digs Out From Blizzard: How To Report Unplowed Streets, Other Snow Woes

NEWARK, NJ — Newark continues to dig out from last weekend’s blizzard, which dumped nearly two feet of snow across much of the state.

According to Mayor Ras Baraka, the city saw a “record and historic” snowfall of 27 inches.

Newark Department of Public Works crews are working around the clock to clear the roads. Meanwhile, local residents can help by identifying areas where there are issues – so the city can dispatch crews where they’re needed the most, officials reported Tuesday.

Newark residents can call the non-emergency call center at 973-733-4311 to report:

  • Streets that have not been plowed
  • Abandoned vehicles blocking roadways
  • Snow dumped into the street
  • Other hazardous snow or ice conditions

City officials reminded residents and businesses that snow shouldn’t be pushed or thrown back into the streets – something that everyone can do to pitch in.

“This storm is a good reminder that Newark is a unified community where people watch out for one another,” Baraka said. “I’m grateful to see neighbors helping neighbors, and I appreciate the community’s cooperation in contacting 4311 to report areas in our city or problem that need attention.”
