Newark Dog Walker Hit By Car During Police Chase In Essex County
The 79-year-old woman is hospitalized and in serious condition, police say.

A 79-year-old pedestrian was sent to the hospital in ‘serious condition’ after being hit by a car attempting to flee a Newark police cruiser near Branch Brook Park on Thursday.
According to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, the woman was walking her dog on Clinton Avenue around 11:47 a.m., when a gold 2002 Nissan Sentra trying to shake a pursuing Newark police car struck her.
The 20-year-old male driver also struck a Mercury Sable on the scene. The driver and passenger of that car were hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.

Pursuant to Attorney General guidelines, the Professional Standards Bureau of the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office is conducting an investigation of the incident.
As of Thursday evening, no arrests have been made.
