Newark Embarks On Massive Fight Against Potholes (Here’s Where)
"I feel like I'm in Mario Kart," a Newark vehicle owner said.

NEWARK, NJ — Sick of potholes on your local roadway, Newark? City officials recently announced plans to launch an “accelerated” pothole-filling and street sweeping effort throughout Newark, beginning April 9 and lasting until June 15.
The road work campaign is the result of “a prolonged and severe winter and reorganization of street sweeping services,” city officials stated.
During the campaign, extra street sweeping equipment and personnel will be assigned to each ward. During this period, there will be no ticketing and towing for alternate side of the street parking, but residents are being asked to cooperate with the effort by moving their cars at the usual times so their streets can be swept.

NEWARK RESIDENTS SPEAK ABOUT POTHOLES, ROAD REPAIRS
A city social media post about the repairs on Tuesday inspired dozens of comments about potholes… and the state of Newark’s roadways.
Some of the comments included:
- “Wow what a coincidence we're fixing potholes starting at least one month before elections.”
- “Newark streets are a shame. I feel like I’m in Mario Kart…”
- “Please fill the huge ditch on University between Orange and James - it busted my tire wide open today.”
- “Fixing potholes is a temporary fix that just makes completely redoing a street more difficult and costly down the line. My street has been a mess for over 10 years, I've got potholes the size of kiddie pools.”
- “Fix McClellan by flora… it's horrible… people are driving on the wrong side of the street to avoid the holes. It needs new pavement not a pothole fix job.”
- “Ok if these are the dates how come down town streets are getting a complete makeover and not the whole city?”
- “6st between Davenport and Berkeley huge pothole.”
- “Yes.... Do that especially Grafton Ave and Oriental St”
- “21 is a warzone, this would take years to fix not a few months of filling holes”
- “It’s a miracle”
Local political advocacy group A Movement For The People (AMP) released a statement on Wednesday about the city's pothole campaign, calling it a series of "cynical measures intended to dupe voters into forgetting that the incumbents are responsible for these problems."
AMP recently posted the below videos of potholes in the city.
