Newark Firefighters Rescue 2 From House Fire; 14 People Relocated

Authorities said 14 residents were relocated after the blaze. A Newark firefighter suffered a minor injury battling the fire.

NEWARK, NJ — More than a dozen people had to be relocated after a fire at a three-story home in Newark on Thursday morning, authorities said.

According to the Newark Department of Public Safety, firefighters responded to the 200-block of South 11th Street around 2:40 a.m. Firefighters found “heavy smoke” coming from the basement and third-floor windows of the three-story, wood-frame building.

Firefighters found two people inside the building and helped them escape. Other residents self-evacuated, authorities said.

A firefighter suffered a sprained wrist and was transported to University Hospital for treatment.

The fire was placed under control at 3:22 a.m. Authorities said 14 residents were relocated after the blaze.

The Newark Fire Division’s arson unit is investigating the cause and origin of the fire.
